It’s been awhile since my last post so here’s an update on what I’ve been up to!

I just finished my second week at Fox Searchlight and I’m not exaggerating when I say I love it. Being in LA is very cool. It’s a hip and influential city that I’ve wanted to visit ever since having hopes of being a famous actress as a little girl.

But work is definitely my favorite part.

Which is something I never thought I’d say about any job. (or internship)

The people at Fox are some of the most creative and interesting people I’ve ever met. It also doesn’t hurt that they are some of the nicest too.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but living in the Midwest my entire life I had this idea that every person who worked in Hollywood was vain and acted entitled.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure there are plenty of those people out here, I just haven’t met them yet. Fact: everyone at Searchlight is nicer than other people I’ve met. Even in Iowa, where “Iowa Nice” is an actual saying people throw around.

At Searchlight we’ve been doing a lot of work for our latest movie Me and Earl and the Dying Girl.  And if you’ve read my previous post you’ll know that I love this movie. It can appeal to everyone young and old and there is absolutely no reason for everyone not to see this film. It is that good! I promise.

Come on. Nick Offerman is in it. Go see it!

Actually there has been one bad thing that’s happened to me since working on the Lot. Today me another intern went to go get lunch. I thought “Wow! How great would it be to take this delicious lemonade I’m drinking to go so I can enjoy it later?” So I filled my eco friendly cup to the brim and started to walk out.

Now the normal experience when exiting a building, in case you didn’t know, is to push (or pull) a door open and simply walk out.  Yet, as I learned today, it’s not always that easy.  I confidently pushed the door open thinking “I got this, I know how to open a door, I can’t wait to drink this lemonade later” And yet the door didn’t open a full 180 degrees like you might think a door would.  No.  I opened about 90 degrees then it jolted back at me. Hitting my hand. That was holding my lemonade in my eco friendly cup. Causing the cup to get smashed. Which popped the lid off.  Spilling my lemonade all over me. Thankfully there were some Fox employees eating directly right outside the door who saw everything, and offered me napkins. And thankfully Searchlight had some cool Me and Earl and the Dying Girl shirts I could change in to.

I quickly decided that all in all, if the worst thing that’s happened to me so far is spilling my lemonade, then I’d consider the entire internship so far a complete a and total success.

But in all honesty, I’ve gotten to know a couple of my supervisors and some other interns pretty well and they’re all great people.

I am very thankful and beyond lucky to be in LA, doing what I get to do, for a company like Fox Searchlight, with these amazing people.  It’s kind of unreal.

If you saw Me and Earl and want to share your thoughts. Film a video of your review of the movie and post it to Instagram with #meandearlreview

I even got to go to the LA Film Fest this week with a friend from Drake who’s out here for the summer as well!  I’ve never been to a film fest before so it was a very cool experience.  This is also where I had my first celebrity sighting since coming out here.  While exiting the theater I walked past Rider Strong.  And if you grew up watching Boy Meets World like I did then you know exactly who that is!  I walked past him and then realized who he was and didn’t go back and try to talk to him.  And now I am filled with regret!!!  But I am also ready for my next celebrity encounter!
